About Chincoteague Ponies:

Chincoteague Ponies are a breed of feral ponies that live on Assateague Island off the coasts of Maryland and Virginia. Legend says they descended from Spanish horses that survived a shipwreck in the 1600s, though they may have been brought by colonists. These hardy ponies have adapted to survive on salt marsh grasses and beach vegetation.
